A true definition of hardcore.

hard core

noun

  1. the permanent, dedicated, and completely faithful nucleus of a group or movement, as of a political party.
  2. an unyielding or intransigent element in a social or organizational structure, as that part of a group consisting of longtime adherents or those resistant to change.

Hardcore is an often overused word that has many definitions and uses. It is sometimes used to describe certain individuals, and it also a genre of music. For the purposes of this post it will be used as both.

I saw a prime example what can be considered hardcore last light while working a show at my hometown venue Hodi’s Halfnote. It was metal night, and as many know, I am a fan of most kinds of music, but there is a special place in my heart for the harder genres. To me a true definition of hardcore is  when your guitar player breaks his neck three days before a show, and still makes the gig.  I can’t give much about the story of Fort Collins metal band Unreasonable Human. I had not heard of these guys before they took the stage. But if the dedication of guitarist Brandon Christenson is any indication of what the rest of his bandmates are like, then Unreasonable Human is a band that is truely hardcore.
